Evaluation of the Belgian Red Cross’s Disaster Preparedness programme in the African Great Lakes Region

Key Aid Consulting was recently commissioned by the Belgium Red-Cross Flanders (BRC-Fl) to evaluate the 2nd phase of their disaster preparedness programme in Rwanda, Burundi and Tanzania. Working with the national Red Cross societies in those three countries, the consultants conducted field visits in each to facilitate a two-days lessons learnt workshop. The findings informed BRC-FL strategy and the planning of future disaster and cash preparedness interventions in the Great Lake Region. This evaluation supports learning transfer; what specific lessons learned, and best practices should be disseminated either within the programme or more widely within the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to contribute to global learning.
